About ARFTG

ARFTG’s main goal is to help end-users get the most from the latest generation of test and measurement equipment.

The Automatic Radio Frequency Techniques Group (ARFTG) is a US charitable organization fostering the development of RF and microwave measurements. Established in 1972, ARFTG has since become the primary platform for cutting-edge test and measurements technologies, bringing together the world’s leading industries, experts, and scientific community.

ARFTG Executive Committee

The Executive Committee consists of 15 members, that are being elected for a three year term at each Annual Meeting of the Members.

Pioneer times

On September 21, 1972, the first formal meeting of ARFTG, which at the time was called the ANA-ATE Users Organization, was held at the Hughes Aircraft Company, Fullerton, California and was hosted by Alan E. Holley. The attendees were primarily users of Hewlett-Packard automatic network analyzers.

Back then, the focus of ARFTG was on instrumentation automation and calibration.

User Forums

User forums are informal groups of like-minded engineers for sharing expertise and ideas, and discussing problems in an open and relaxed atmosphere.

ARFTG Awards

ARFTG fosters developments in RF and microwave measurements and supports a global expert community. Therefore, we traditionally honour outstanding achievers in various categories at the ARFTG Conferences.

ARFTG for Students

We support students who show promise and interest in the field of RF and microwave measurement through various programs.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

ARTFG is committed to advancing diversity in all of its activities and to promoting an inclusive and equitable culture, without regard to race, religion, gender, disability, age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Broad range of topics

Since then, measurement techniques have evolved greatly, and now include such diverse topics as nonlinear measurements, production testing, temporal measurements, high frequency fixturing and probing, multi-port network analysis, mixed-signal measurements, mmWave, and THz measurements. The broad range of ARFTG interests is reflected in the nature of the annual conferences.

Two annual conferences

ARFTG holds two conferences a year: a spring conference held in conjunction with the International Microwave Symposium IMS and a winter conference, which is co-located with the Radio and Wireless Week RWW.

On average, more than 120 experts from all over the world attend ARFTG conferences and take part in workshops, sessions and User Forums.

ARFTG is part of a global community of experts from science and industry, partnering with leading organisations like IEEE and MTT-S.

ARFTG cooperates with IEEE and MTT-S as a verified partner organization. Papers being submitted, accepted and presented at ARFTG Conferences, are being published in IEEE Xplore.
